Journey of a Wargamer – Comments welcomed

Club Night

Went to the Duellists tonight for the first time in two months. Popped around to Evan’s and saw his latest personal project – AB French Napoleonics in 15mm. Jeez they’re nice figures and he paints them so nicely as well. At the club it was the first game using armies based on FoW bases but using Age of Eagles the Fire and Fury napoleonic spin off. I was always predisposed to like these because of the familiar FnF mechanics and even though I was mainly a rules checking participant than a player, I can see how they’d work.

The new basing scheme is really hard to describe: take 6-8 infantry miniatures, place them in two rows of three on a FOW medium base with the short edge at the front and the long edge on the sides. That is one of the elements making up a Brigade. It looks really nice once you add in all the groundwork. AB minis being effectively 18mm only fit 6 infantry/2 cav while the 15s I have will fit 8 and 3 respectively. With the artillery we’re mixing one on a medium base along with two guns on a Large artillery FOW base. Plus some of the guys are basing infantry on the arty bases to simplify moving figures – they look really good.
